Brian Wilson Gets An “A” For “Surfin'”

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, has received an “A” for composing the track “Surfin‘” when he was high school. When Wilson was in high school at Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, California, his music teacher Fred Morgan gave Wilson an “F” for the composition of the song, saying “Brian wrote a composition for me and it turned out to be ‘Surfin.’ That composition got an F, but it made a million dollars.” Recently, the school’s current music teacher Dr. Landsfiend went and changed the grade.

Surfin” was recorded on October 3rd, 1961 at World Pacific Studios in California. Several months later it was released and became The Beach Boys first hit. Wilson’s most current solo release was Playback: The Brian Wilson Anthology released in September of last year.
