California’s Jakob Pek takes listeners on musical journey with new EP Acoustic Medicine

Oakland, California’s Jakob Pek has spent years perfecting his skills on the acoustic guitar, perfecting unconventional playing methods such as bowing and alternate tunings. On his new EP Acoustic Medicine, Pek explores these methods thoroughly, taking his audience on a musical adventure. Performing music since the age of four when he started out with the violin, Pek has clearly got music running through his genes, and while his songs might be a little long winded for some, each tracks emotional feel can sway many different music fans, as it’s not targeted at one audience.

Opening with “Surrendered to Grace,” Pek hits his audience with an 11-minute song that lets us hear delicate notes on the acoustic guitar. Without any lyrics, “Surrendered” is all about feeling an immediate emotion, leaving the track up for interpretation. “The Great Return” is perhaps the most interesting number on Acoustic Medicine. Using different sound effects to create a cut that could make its way into a movie soundtrack, its meditative vibe is a beautiful one, making it stand out.

Closing with the track “Sweet Memory’s Melody” Pek once again introduces his listeners to a beautiful work of art and with colorful phrases weaving in and out of the song, Pek knows how to keep his listeners entertained when they want something calm and light to listen to. While Acoustic Medicine may not become a part of everyone’s regular music rotation, the creativity and the soul stirring music that Pek has written, is something to take notice of.
