Roja releases non-traditional mariachi song with plenty of edge on new single “The Evil Stands High”

Liverpool, England’s new indie-mariachi group Roja, has released their new single “Evil Stands High,” a song that hits you with an explosion of sound. While the band keeps a rough indie edge throughout the track, the bands brass section gives the number a shimmering edge, though without the punch from the horns in traditional mariachi songs. Releasing their debut record Promises I Should Have Kept in 2014, the group has made their debut on national television in England as part of the BBC show UK’s Best Part-Time Band allowing for plenty of exposure in their home country. While their work takes on a different edge than the typical indie band, Roja is not an act to pass over as their individual approach to music sets them apart.
